Doric Bungalow

The 'Doric Bungalow' is one of the most beautiful houses in the country built on the shores of Mannar in the 1800s.
There is a picture in the photo gallery showing the original appearance of this palace.
When you see it, you wonder if this is the place ...
Let me first tell you the history of this Doric bungalow ...

As you are aware, this is believed to be the residence of Frederick North, the first British Governor to rule the country.

The Greek word for 'doric' means arches with massive towers.  In that sense, it's called the Doric Bungalow ...

According to Greek tradition, the building was designed by Frederick North.

It is a pity that the remaining parts of the Doric mansion built on a rock on the beach in the Silawathura area in Mannar are also being severely eroded by the sea.

At that time the ground floor of this bungalow had four rooms and a large living room and the upper floor also had a bedroom.

Built in 1804, Father James Codiner's Description of Ceylon in 1807 states, "It is arguably the most beautiful home on the island and the only architecturally complete construction."

In fact, seeing these ruins shows that the intense sunlight that falls on Mannar must have been cooled by the massive brick walls of this massive building ...

It is about 220 years old and should be preserved as a national heritage site, but many of the western walls of the building have fallen into the sea.

The Department of Archeology has designated this as an archeological site but we do not see any conservation work ...

Named 'Alle Rani Fort' in Tamil, this bungalow has not been subjected to terrorist influence ...
