Today I brought you about another great place in the Sabaragamuwa Province. If you haven't heard of Bakers Bend, you can't be from Sri Lanka because it's quite famous here.
About 18 km from Balangoda on the Badulla road you will come across a small town called Galagama. After passing it for about 500 meters you will come across a road called Nanperial on the left hand side. If you are coming from Haputale, you have to come to Pabahinna and come about 500 meters from there.
About 6 km along this road you will find the Nanperial Village and the Nanperial Tea Factory. About 12km down Nanperial Road to Bakers Bend. If you go by car on this road you can go 3 or 4 km without any difficulty but the road beyond that is very broken. If you go on foot or bike you can see a lot of small waterfalls.
One bus is plying on this road and it leaves Balangoda at around 7.30 am. This bus goes to Nanperial village. In the past, the bus used to go to the factory, but now the road is blocked and it is not going up. If you are going upstairs near the Nanperial factory, you have to get permission from the estate authorities.
If you want to experience the beauty of Nanperial, you have to go on foot. Even though the journey is difficult, that beauty is priceless. The slope on the south side of the Nanperial Road, which falls between two mountains, is further enhanced by the beautiful Hirikatu Oya below. Occasionally a thick fog covers the entire mountain range. There is no reason to be afraid of the sun but you should make sure to protect yourself from the rain. Initially, there were many small waterfalls, but after passing Nanperial School, there were several large waterfalls.
After passing the Tea Factory for about 4 km you will reach the destination Bakers Bend. There are no words to describe the day when the view here is foggy. So super. Below you can see Hirikatu Oya, Samanala Wewa and the mountain range in front. Bakers Bend is a single elbow bend, a downhill slope of a bend. According to villagers, the story goes that during the British rule, a white man named Samuel Baker fell down the slope of a bend and died because he could not control his horse's speed. Hence the name Bakers Bend.
This place is located about 5000 feet above sea level in the Ratnapura district but the climate is similar to that of Nuwara Eliya. This is a great place for a photographer to take creative photos. Going further up this road you will find a downhill path at the top of the hill. This route leads to Belihuloya.
At the end of Nanperial Road is an old bungalow. In the past, there was a way to get to the end of the world from the jungle near this bungalow. It is possible to reach the end of the world in a journey of about 4 km. But now there is no permission to go that route. As far as I know it is prohibited by law. This may be due to the presence of valuable flora and fauna or the insecurity of the area.
In the past, however, it was possible to camp behind this bungalow. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. But I heard from a friend of mine that this bungalow is for rent. It's a great experience. Because this bungalow is located at the highest point. Its view is even more terrifying than Baker's Bend. There is also a hut built to look after this view which is located in front of the bungalow.
Bakers Bend, Nanperial can be recommended as a great place to travel. You go there too, but as we say in every post don't ruin this environment Don't take polythene plastic here but don't forget to take it back. Save this beauty for future generations. The environment only expects you to follow in your footsteps.
